Origins
My interest in breeding Brangus commenced in 1973 when I purchased some Angus cows and joined them to a Brahman bull. I was always keen on Angus, liking black cattle and had heard about how the Brahmans were starting to revolutionise the cattle industry in the northern half of Australia. The idea of combining two of the best breeds, both with great commercial traits seemed a good commercial idea to me, a view that I have never doubted to the present time.
Progress has been slow as with any breeding programme, but persist we have. Breeding a herd of cattle is said to be a lifetimes work and I have been at it for 35 years, hopefully I have still time to put the finishing touches. I believe we are starting to make some real progress in breeding cattle that will prove to be of significant commercial value in my view.
Our Brangus bulls are ideal for crossing over the local beef herds and also for using by the dairy farmers for “Dairy Beef”. Bred over Hereford and Angus cows the progeny provides and excellent growth rate and sleek, shiny coats which gives a particularly noticeable impression during winter sales. Crossing over the Fresian provides a good dairy beef steer but something not widely recognised or used to advantage as the Fresian/Brangus F1 female. The Brangus/Fresian F1 female is a particularly impressive animal, a very strong vigorous mother ideal for “Vealer” production.
Our selling remains focused on Victoria and we have repeat buyers. Coming from all parts of the state.
We open for “Beef Week” in January-February each year and have a selection of bulls for sale. |
